ANNA'S STORY
Scarborough Proud

Scarborough Proud

I have lived in Cliffside since I was a little girl. My children attended the same elementary school as I did. I seized the opportunity to be a dedicated and active volunteer on both the elementary and highschool School Councils, for over fourteen years. It has been my pride and privilege to be the voice of parents. In addition to being a voting member on both councils, running the ever popular Greek club. this year I am heading the 100 year anniversary committee of my elementary school John A. Leslie P.S.

Volunteer

On the School Council, I have been instrumental in vastly increasing parental engagement, improving communication, sourcing new programs, and advocating for improvements to existing programs.
As a parent with children in the public system, I am constantly striving to increase my capacity not only as a parent and role model, but also as an active community member. I wholeheartedly believe in the importance and difference a parent’s contributions can make in their children’s social, psychological, and educational well being, and success.

Advocacy

After several violent incidents at Birchmount C.I, after fearing for my boys lives, I took an even louder stance on advocacy and the importance of parent voice. Making a guest appearance on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin to call on the accountability of the TDSB and society as a whole. I have become the unofficial voice of parent’s in trying to combat violence.

Education

Fortunately, I come by advocacy and creativity through my education and experience. I am a York University graduate with a Bachelor of Administrative Studies, honours in Marketing.
Corporate marketing and program development allowed me to create engaging programs that brought communities together. This skill set also served me well as I took over operation of our family business upon my father’s 2007 ALS diagnosis.

Entrepreneur

As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I can appreciate the value of hard work and have developed the ability to wear numerous hats; some of which are motivator, relationship builder, and problem solver. Anna is a business owner of a commercial cleaning company serving southwestern Ontario with employees, partners, and customers in Scarborough Southwest.

Stepping up to take over the family business, while on maternity leave with her first child and learning that her father was diagnosed with ALS.  Seventeen years later, her father would have been proud of the tremendous success that stemmed from his hardwork and vision, as a new immigrant to Canada.

APC is a proud supporter of: Scarborough Food Security Initiative (SFSI) and the first ever scholarship program with 41 Division CPLC serving underprivileged youth in our riding.

Founder Bluffs Women in Business Association (BWBA)

A successful entrepreneur herself,  Anna realizes the significant challenges women face in the workplace.  As a  lifetime resident of Cliffside, she recognized there was a large percentage of local businesses that were female run. They were not connected in any capacity so she created the BWBA in November 2022.

A non for profit association for female entrepreneurs to interact and build positive relationships. Serving Cliffside, Cliffcrest, Birchcliff and Guildwood, the BWBA offers a platform to engage, support one another, provide resources, and to be a springboard for success.

BWBA is a proud supporter of the Scarborough Food Security Initiative (SFSI) and Start Up Scarbrough.
